{"id":431,"date":"2013-10-26T22:37:45","date_gmt":"2013-10-26T22:37:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.system11.org\/?p=431"},"modified":"2013-10-27T20:45:37","modified_gmt":"2013-10-27T20:45:37","slug":"hummingbird","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.system11.org\/?p=431","title":{"rendered":"Hummingbird"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Hummingbird<\/span><\/strong> (2013)<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s another Jason Statham action movie!\u00a0 You&#8217;ll probably have made up your mind already on whether you like his films or not, I&#8217;m 50\/50 &#8211; some have been good and some have been distinctly uninspiring.<\/p>\n<p>In Hummingbird Jason plays a down and out called Joe, who is living rough with a friend having deserted the army.\u00a0 He&#8217;s a mess, a vulnerable alcoholic who ends up hiding out in the flat of a wealthy Londoner after having escaped into it when the Soho homeless are being shaken down for change and drugs by some local crooks.<\/p>\n<p>Presented with a roof over his head since the owner is away travelling, he tries to get his life back on track &#8211; but ends up being hired as muscle by the local Chinese mafia, and then his friend from the streets is found dead after a client turns violent.\u00a0 You can guess the end result from here.<\/p>\n<p>The film is violent in places, but it doesn&#8217;t feel gratuitous and it&#8217;s surprisingly sensitive with the portrayal of Joe and sister Cristina.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also a slow burner, which makes a nice change from the films Jason normally stars in, he&#8217;s given a chance to act for once.<\/p>\n<p>Definitely a cut above the normal action\/revenge film, it had me gripped from start to finish and it&#8217;s well worth checking out unless you really don&#8217;t like Statham at all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hummingbird (2013) It&#8217;s another Jason Statham action movie!\u00a0 You&#8217;ll probably have made up your mind already on whether you like his films or not, I&#8217;m 50\/50 &#8211; some have been good and some have been distinctly uninspiring.
