If you’ve seen my new arrivals post, I picked up a couple of Nichibutsu DVD-based mahjong systems. These were a logical extension of where the “undressing mahjong” would go as technology allowed, but they were fairly uncommon and these days few systems are still working due to DVD drive failure.
So given that I do actually have a couple of working systems now and a majority of the software which was available from the system, this weekend I made recordings of all the games running on real hardware. Please excuse the colour balance on a couple of the titles – volumes 1, 3, 7 and 14 were part of the capture learning process. As far as I know these represent the only footage of a running system, not even screenshots exist.
I’d say volumes 8, 15, 17 and SP show the best of the system, there is a huge gap between titles they actually put effort into and others which were pretty much video asset update shovelware without anything interesting added.
